About Us
VolksAmerica & VolksMania magazines were conceived by me, Paul Cave, a dedicated VW enthusaist ever since the day I was given a very rusty old VW Campervan by a local vicar to be my first vehicle – before I had even passed my driving test. The catch... I had to fix it up and get it roadworthy. Well I did, and I've been messing about with classic Volkswagens ever since and writing about them for the last 30 years. Over the last four decades I've repaired and driven many aircooled Volkswagens having owned both Split and Bay Window Buses, Beetles, Beach Buggies, Karmann Ghias (Type 1 and Type 3 Razor Edge Ghias), a Fastback, a couple of Squarebacks and even a 411. Never owned a Thing – fear not, it's on the "to do" list. Currently the garage has several projects vying for attention. Doug The 1965 Bug is the priority, it's my wife's car and has been off the road for too long. There's also a 1978 Bay and a 1966 Fastback, plus a 1957 Split Window Bus and a 1962 Porsche 356B. I'm a collector at heart, and love them all, even if my enthusiasm sometimes gets the better of me and the available time to work on them.
A magazine is created by more than just me though and there's a core team of stellar VDubbers that help create every issue. Let me introduce you:
Jason Vogen – Co-editor of VolksMania, contributor to VolksAmerica, lives in Texas, drives a Split Window Bus at every opportunity.
Amanda Robbins – Co-editor of VolksAmerica, contributor to VolksMania, lives in Illinois, drives a 1967 and a 2015 Beetle to name just a couple.
Ian Mockler – regular contributor to both VolksMania and VolksAmerica, lives in Las Vegas, you'll see him coming in his bright yellow MK1 Golf.
Denise Brown – regular contributor to both VolksMania and VolksAmerica, lives in Tenesee, drives an awesome Thing!
Gill Cave – occasional contributor to VolksMania and VolksAmerica, magazine proof reader and office elf, owns a 1965 Beetle and a 2017 Golf.
Paul McGunigall – UK based, air and watercooled devotee.
Richard Copping – VW history buff and published VW author.
Geoff Thomas – Founder of Autocavan VW performance tuning and parts business (now retired) and all round VW champion.
Pitstop Publishing was founded by myself and Gill, to bring our magazines to fellow VW fans. VolksMania & VolksAmerica were born of a love of VWs and a passion for sharing their stories through the medium of print – there is nothing like flicking through a collection of magazines for ideas for a new project, appreciating the work and dedication of another owner in getting their vehicle on the road, seeing your own vehicle featured across its pages, or spotting yourself in a show report photo. And we are proud to feature the full variety of VWs from humble daily drivers to full on custom creations to recognize and inspire fellow enthusiasts and help keep the passion alive.
